Magecraft Sounds is an indie-classical folk-fantasy musical project by queer Filipino-American flautist, improv conductor, and composer Kenzie Slottow (they/them).
Growing powers of hope and imagination with the spellcraft of co-creation! Since 2020, Slottow’s chamber music improv shows have mixed orchestral, indie, and folk genres, inviting audiences of all ages to weave collaborative stories and co-create soundscapes, songs, choral poetry, and more. Immersive theatrical productions like Flourish! The Musical (2025), MoonFall (2023), and Natatorium (2021) combine stagework like musical theatre improv and ballet with interactive worlds for audiences to influence and explore.
“Conduction: NMASS Reflections”
Magecraft Sounds – with optional NMASS performers – spontaneously co-creates a set of music inspired by the performances of NMASS 2026! Audience prompts will lead us to improvise soundscapes and songs inspired by the sounds and concepts of the weekend of music and art. Grounded in the gestural vocabulary of Conduction, with an improv theatre approach. Audience members will learn the shortlist of Conduction vocabulary (eg. sustain, pedestrian, copy/repeat, event) we’ll be using to shape the set, and artists in the audience are invited to participate!
