Burnt Dot (LA/Austin)
3:00 pm Sunday, 7/16/17
Burnt Dot is a multimedia art ensemble currently based in LA. Co-founded by trumpeter/composer Sarah Belle Reid (who is also performing a solo set for NMASS on Friday) and modular synthesist Ryan Gaston, the group maintains a fluid membership of both sonic and visual artists to examine the manifold performative possibilities of performance, presentation, and pedagogy. Burnt Dot has appeared at NorCal Noise and the Hammer Museum and presented workshops and lectures at a number of institutions, including the California Institute of the Arts, the University of Oregon, and Stanford.
Burnt Dot will present a telematic set for NMASS, as Gaston dials in from Los Angeles to perform with Reid and video projectionist Meason Wiley in real time. With all sounds improvised in real time and subject to processing by other members of the ensemble, Burnt Dot will present a set entirely dependent on the extensions (and interdependencies) afforded by our technological ecology.
